The Drug and Alcohol Commission’s Prevention Unit provides educational services within our local communities.  The Unit follows “best practice” prevention guidelines in schools and community prevention programming.  Services provided are aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and community awareness regarding substance abuse issues.

Topics Include, but are not limited to:

  • Psychological and physical effects of alcohol and other drugs
  • Nature of chemical dependency
  • Family dynamics of chemical dependency
  • Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
  • Alcohol and other drug prevention programs for young people
  • Substance abuse and the elderly
  • Current Alcohol and Drug Trends

Services Include:

  • Evidence Based and State Approved Prevention Programs
  • Commonwealth approved Student Assistance Program Training Provider and Student Assistance Program Consultation, Maintenance, and Group Facilitation
  • Technical Assistance with youth, adult, and community groups
  • Consultation and education for community groups and other social service agencies regarding alcohol and other drug abuse
  • DVD’s, videos, pamphlets, and other drug and alcohol resource material
